Salmonella On The Rise In Chicken

WASHINGTON – A type of salmonella
found in eggs is turning up more often
in chicken meat and needs to be reduced,
according to the Agriculture Department.

From 2000 through 2005, there was a
fourfold increase in positive test results for salmonella enteritidis on chicken carcasses.

Vegan Gossip: Vegan Fast Food Chain Coming to a City Near You?
The continued trend toward unhealthy vegan food may get a boost from Heather Mills, the soon to be ex-wife of Beatle, Sir Paul McCartney. According to LIFE STYLE EXTRA (UK), the 38 year old vegan animal rights activist is planning to have her vegan fast food eateries up and running sometime next year. My biggest fear is that the menu willbe full of processed foods, high in salt and fat---just what we need!!!

Vegan.com Launches Online Grocery
Vegan grocery shopping just got a little easier(that is if you buy your groceryies online). Vegan.com recently opened up shop with its new store, offering everything from cleaning supplies to vitamins and supplements. If you are stuck somewhere in the great American Shopping Mall and can't find a good natural foods store (all of which offer a decent selection of vegan, earth friendly goods), then this is the place for you.

Mercy For Animals--Upcoming Events
Local Animal Rights Organization, Mercy For Animals recently merged with a Chicago area animal rights group to become an even bigger force in the protection of livestock than they were before.

The group, which has been a strong advocate for eliminating cruelty to factory farm animals, can now boast some 6000 members in the mid-west.

Board Elections
The Central Ohio Vegetarian Society conducts annual elections for its board members at our November annual meeting. This past November, the annual meeting was postponed for sometime in early 2007. We will be holding the annual meeting at our March Potluck.

If you are interested in running for one of our vacant board seats contact Del Sroufe at 614-262-4291 by February 25th.

To be eligible for a board seat you must be a member in good standing as of January 25th. Balloting this year will be conducted by email.

COVS baord members help set the agenda for our organization for the coming year and help determine policy for the organization.
